Random pics from Konstanz and surrounding area

Strict rules in the coffee room at the institute on campus!   (it's in English b/c a the PhD students are from all over)

My BFF's here in Germany!  We gathered by train from three seperate directions at Rodolfzell;  Albert & son Luis from Langenargen, and Theresa works during the week just east of Stuttgart, and weekends in Langenargen.  This long trip went from about 9:30 to 6:30.  Clearest day ever.

Yes, Sequoia trees in Germany!  There is also one at city hall in Langenargen.  This is at the 'garden' island of Mainau.  As are these goats and the two pics before the sequoias.

The famous Imperia statue by Peter Lenk (also did the other sculptures)

View from the Univ. of Konstanz campus.  Very unusual design plan (1970's) overall.  Very 3D and non-linear lines (ok, except those buildings there...) & pathways.

Black Forest Hike

Finally did a hike in the Black Forest, which was a plan from before I came to Germany.  2hr trip with two trains and a bus each way, not too bad for an early Sunday morning.

Mega cairn; this one is for you Hank!

First full day in Konstanz (a Saturday)

This small city (~80,000) is a regional hub.  I'm staying in the Altstadt (old city) portion.  Facinating narrow cobblestone streets (no cars) and old buildings with a mix of styles.  But also moderized in places with upscale shops, ice cream places, cafes, etc.  The waterfront area are both the lake and the Rhine River outlet.

Transit to Konstaz; ferry across the lake

This was the end of the short trip to Konstanz on a car ferry.  Thanks to Sarah for the ride!
